Theory in Practice: Wind Erosion Control Prediction System
Learn enough basic theory on wind erosion to understand how to select practical methods for controlling airborne soil particles generated from both wind (saltation) and mechanical (road traffic) sources. Actual case studies will show you employed methods and materials that have proven effective over time.
WEPS (Wind Erosion Prediction System) will be used to demonstrate the relative effectiveness of alternative control methods and to illustrate the relative risk of soil loss in different climates.
Bring a laptop computer to work along with the instructors. Software will be available on CD-ROM.
When you leave, you will be able to:
- Understand wind erosion processes in order to assess the risk of soil loss.
- Reduce soil erodibility
- Reduce wind speed at ground level
- Assess when and how to use chemical dust suppressant products
- Determine what plant density and cover is needed for effective erosion control

Technical Sessions
The technical program will offer something for everyone. Sessions will address local, state, national, and international issues and their solutions. Presentations will be given by representatives from ASTM, EWRI, Caltrans and professionals from around the world.
This year we are proud to offer our first session conducted entirely in Spanish.
NPDES-Pautas de Prevención de Contaminación del Agua de Tormenta para un Sitio de la Construcción (NPDES- Storm Water Pollution Prevention Guidelines for a Construction Site) is a 1.5 hour workshop designed to educate people working on construction sites about the history of the regulations and how BMPs are used to stay in compliance.
Technical sessions are included in a Wednesday or Thursday pass.
