This webinar will draw on some of the best practices in the industry on how to setup a robust program from a centralized records system to a dedicated stormwater team. We will cover how to run an annual stormwater training program for facility staff, including general awareness training and specific stormwater team training. In addition, we will cover the risks associated with non-compliance including examples of poorly setup programs and the financial ramifications of enforcement actions and lawsuits. To keep your program in compliance, we will focus on one of the key Best Management Practices (BMPs), good housekeeping, used to ensure compliance with industrial stormwater permits.

In addition, we will cover how to setup and run a monitoring program for industrial facilities. The webinar will include how to train personnel on sampling and inspection (routine and visual) best practices. We will discuss how to setup and implement a central reporting system for your monitoring records to meet permit requirements. Lastly, sampling and analytical considerations will be discussed, including field versus laboratory measurements that are time sensitive (such as pH) and best practices for collecting, labeling and preparing samples from planning to execution. The presentation will cover what happens to samples when they arrive at the laboratory and what can be done to achieve accurate, timely results.

Finally, we will also cover how to reduce spending on your stormwater program and ensure compliance with all the permit requirements by leveraging online and mobile technologies. The focus will be on how new technologies are being used in the stormwater industry to gather and understand data, train staff, and comply with permits. Examples of different types of mobile technology and online apps that can be used to more efficiently conduct and track BMP inspections across multiple sites in a portfolio will be covered. In addition, strategies on how to leverage online apps to keep BMP information and SWPPP maps up to date with ever-changing site conditions will be discussed. The final piece regarding technology will be on online training platforms and how to best engage with staff to ensure permit compliance with sampling, inspection, and BMP requirements.

Ryan Janoch is the Founder/Head of Product at Mapistry, which provides online storm water compliance software to industrial facilities. He is a California licensed professional engineer and Trainer of Record (ToR) for California Qualified Industrial Stormwater Practitioners (QISPs). Ryan has nationwide experience in storm water program compliance for industrial, municipal and federal clients, including the U.S. Department of Transportation, U.S. Navy, ready-mix concrete plants, metal recyclers and bulk marine terminals. He led the team that developed the New Jersey protocols for testing and evaluating storm water treatment devices, serves on the Water Environment Federation’s national committee for standardizing storm water practices and products (STEPP). Ryan has evaluated and overseen testing of storm water treatment devices and media across the U.S.
