CISEC Frequently Asked Questions

What is a CISEC?

A Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CISEC) is someone that has proven their ability, skill, experience, and knowledge of SWPPP requirements in order to complete a comprehensive inspection. Developed by professionals having an accumulation of over 100 years of stormwater compliance inspection experience, this nationwide certification program provides occupational tools necessary for inspectors to complete their dutues in an effective and practical manner. What is the CISEC program?

The CISEC program consists of one and one-half days of training modules plus one-half day of examination. The intermediate level training modules assume participants possess a basic understanding of sediment and erosion control principles. The 3½ hour comprehensive examination is closed book and consists of multiple choice and true/false questions, fill in the blanks, writing inspection reports, and assessing a SWPPP. How do I register for the training modules at EC12?

You must register for at least a Wednesday conference pass, select the CISEC training, and pay the resource fee. The registration and resource fees will provide entry into the Wednesday and Thursday training modules. It will also include lunch on Wednesday and the Birthday Bash on Wednesday evening. Participants must register with CISEC to sit for the exam. Registration for the training modules must take place through IECA. CISEC, Inc. will not accept training module registration fees. You may register online or by calling 1-800-455-4322.

Is there a certification examination?

Yes! The comprehensive closed book certification examination will require about 3½ hours to complete. There is no requirement for those taking the examination to enroll into the training modules.

How do I gain approval to take the exam?

Applicants wanting to take the certification examination must submit their application material and evaluation fee to CISEC, Inc. (see www.cisecinc.org). IECA will not accept any material or fees for the CISEC certification examination! The completed application form, three reference letters, and full payment of evaluation fee must be received by CISEC, Inc. by no later than January 31, 2012. Submittal of this material does not guarantee approval to take the certification examination. For more information, visit www.cisecinc.org.

What are the evaluation fees?

The fee for evaluating your qualifications is $150 USD if you register with IECA to take the training modules (please provide a copy of their registration) or $350 USD if you elect to not attend the training modules. Evaluations will occur after CISEC, Inc. receive a completed payment form (see the Training and Exam Dates tab at www.cisecinc.org.) and full payment of the evaluation fee by no later than January 31, 2012.

Can I take multiple exams at EC12?

No, the CISEC exam and Envirocert Exams are offered concurrently

If I take the training modules do I have to take the exam?

No, and there is no prior approval is required. Likewise, anybody approved by CISEC, Inc. to take the certification examination is not required to attend the training modules.
