IECA is looking for advanced courses that tell our participants WHY things in the industry need to be done, rather than focusing so much on HOW things are done.

Abstract Submittal Guidelines

Full and Half-Day Courses

EC12 February 26-29, 2012 - Las Vegas, Nevada

Please use the provided online form for all abstract submittals.

Be sure to have the following information available for entry, as incomplete submittals can not be accepted:

  • Name, title, organization name and contact information for all instructors. You are responsible for updating any changes that may occur to your personal information.
  • Title for your abstract. This is what your course will be named in our conference education information. Please use proper grammar while naming your document and be sure not to use all capital letters.
  • Choose your presentation type.
  • Assess the appropriate degree of expertise necessary for your attendees:
    • Basic: General knowledge of the topic
    • Intermediate: Average to Moderate knowledge of the topic
    • Advanced: Expert or Highly proficient in the topic area
    • All: Suitable for a broad audience knowledge level
  • Write (3) three concise learning objectives for your course, with focus on the participant's learning needs. Each objective should be ten words or less.
  • Choose a technology section that would be most appropriate for your course.
  • Write a clear, concise, 400 words or less description of your course.
    • You may want to touch on matters such as: where your project takes place, why you chose to discuss this particular subject, who is involved in your project, lessons learned from your project.
    • Include a statement regarding the original problems with the project and their resolutions and/or the contribution that your course will make in the erosion and sediment control industry.
    • Provide a conclusion, lessons learned and/or main results regarding your project.

Below are a few guidelines that we ask you to follow in order to present at EC12:

  • Courses must be used for educational value, not for advertisement.
  • Please note all deadline dates and expectations to make sure you are able to fulfill IECA's scheduling needs.
  • Please be sure to check your punctuation, spelling and grammar in ALL documents submitted to IECA. We will NOT be editing your courses before posting them onto our website and into our proceedings documents.
  • Be original. Find a subject that will be of interest to others and will bring new knowledge to erosion and sediment control.
  • Plan your course to address all industry professionals. Keep a broad set of attendees in mind while creating your course. Material that is focused on a particular skill may cause people to feel excluded from your course.
  • Give credit where credit is due. There is nothing wrong with using another person's ideas to support your course, as long as proper credit is given.
  • Please contact Natalie Bollinger at natalie@ieca.org if you have any questions.
