IECA Committees

IECA’s Government Relations Committee

Government Relations Overview Committee Guidelines Committee Members Articles and Updates

IECA’s Government Relations Committee monitors legislative activity and represents IECA and its members’ interests to local, regional and national government entities. The committee is chaired by Brett Bergefurd.

Call for Volunteers

The committee has developed new committee guidelines in order to more clearly define the role of the committee and the jobs of its members. This committee is soliciting members to serve as Chapter representatives. Chapter representatives will convey the interests and concerns of members in their region, as well as monitor their local legislative activity.

Committee members will receive training in public policy techniques and activities—don’t let inexperience in this area hold you back from participating! If you are interested in serving as a Chapter representative on the Government Relations Committee, please contact your Chapter president.

IECA’s Role in Public Policy Formulation

IECA participates in the political and administrative processes that generate public policy by presenting our views to policymakers. These views are developed using a process that has been established by the IECA Board of Directors.

IECA influences policy through the consistent development of high quality, fact based positions on issues affecting erosion control and the environment.

Our policy work provides several products and services to the membership, and also to the publics we serve. They are:

  • tracking national issues;
  • developing and distributing position statements;
  • providing expert testimony;
  • supporting IECA Chapters in their policy activities.

Recommendations

The Government Relations Committee recommends that IECA submit policy statements to each U.S. Congressional subcommittee providing oversight on an issue in which IECA has an interest. By going “on the record” with appropriators, IECA can gain visibility in Washington, and start to get our voice heard. The committee is organizing a list of appropriations subcommittees and aspects of the federal budget to address, and requests that IECA members contact the committee with any suggestions.

Contact Us!

The Government Relations Committee needs to hear from you. If there is legislation that concerns you, either locally or nationally, please contact committee chair Brett Bergefurd at BBergefurd@co.delaware.oh.us.
