Deep Learning-Based Aerial Stormwater Inspections

Billur Kazaz, CPESC IT

Drones are changing our perspective on many different fields but how would they impact construction stormwater inspections? Can we automate inspection procedures with the use of emerging technologies? This presentation will discuss how we can improve traditional inspection approaches by integrating deep learning technology to drones.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn about how emerging technologies can be integrated into construction stormwater inspections.
  • Learn about the capabilities of UASs in construction stormwater.
  • Learn about how to improve current inspection approaches.

Presented by Billur Kazaz, CPESC IT – Graduate Research Assistant, Auburn University

Billur Kazaz is currently a Ph.D. student at Auburn University under the advisement of Dr. Michael Perez. She earned her B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Istanbul Technical University, Turkey in 2018, where she investigated building information modeling (BIM). Ms. Kazaz earned her Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University in December 2019. She focused on modeling groundwater data and investigating the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles in construction site inspections of erosion and sediment control practices during her time at Iowa State University. Currently she conducts research on using flocculants for construction stormwater treatment and aerial inspections of temporary E&SC practices.
