    Penny Luehring, USDA Forest Service Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) Program Leader, will provide timely examples of emergency response actions and treatment examples will be described along with examples of longer-term post fire remediation needs and costs.
  • New Online Training Bundles Now Available for Sediment Basin and LID Design
    Take advantage of IECA eLearning Packages to get training on the industry's latest issues. The newest bundles include Sediment Basin: Design Course Package and the Low Impact Development (LID) Design and Implementation Package.
  • IECA Mountain States Regional Conference Schedule Now Online!
  • This one day event provides training on specific environmental compliance issues, construction and post-contruction BMPs, water quality and other issues specific to the mountain states area. This event is worth seven Professional Development Hours (0.7 Credit).

    Watch the "floating" island installation in the Bee Branch Creek restoration project in Dubuque, Iowa. Jonathan Koepke, CPESC, LEEC-AP (ENCAP, Inc.) helped install the 14 islands constructed of BPA-free recycled plastic.  The islands feature native aquatic plants that build an ideal environment for beneficial microbes, improve the water quality and create a wildlife habitat.

  • New Slope Stabilization Course Now Online

  • Next Stop on the IECA Roadshow: Washington, DC

    The IECA Regional Roadshow is hitting the road for the summer of 2017. The roadshow will be held in Washington, DC on July 27, 2017 for the Urban Stream Construction Workshop. This workshop will feature morning sessions followed by an afternoon field trip.

    IECA names its 2016 winners for the Environmental Achievement and Outstanding Professional of the Year awards. The Texas A & M Transportation Institute’s Sediment and Erosion Control Laboratory Project receives the Environmental Excellence Award. Adam Dibble, CESSWI is named the Outstanding Professional of the Year award recipient and Daniel Salsinger, CPESC is named Sustained Contributor Award recipient!

    IECA has launched a new education certificate portal to give you access to the education you’ve taken through IECA. Now, you can now download your certificates for IECA events, print your IECA transcript, search for future IECA events and submit your own credit for courses you have taken outside of IECA. To access this new member benefit select your profile, and click on the “claim credit” tab.

  • New CEU Accredited Online Course | Rain Water Harvesting: Applications and Maintenance

    This new online course is provides 0.1 IACET Accredited CEUs. Presented by William Lord this presentation will take an in depth look at the pressure on domestic water supplies and stormwater runoff from impervious surfaces becomes more of a problem, rain water harvesting can lessen pressure on water supplies and reduce stormwater runoff. Rain water harvesting has been used for centuries. In ancient Rome and Byzantium water was stored in huge underground cisterns to help walled citied withstand sieges. In climates with alternating wet and dry seasons water can be stored in cisterns to provide supply in the dry season. Rainwater harvesting can provide economical irrigation water as well as non-potable water for domestic toilet flushing, clothes washing, and car washing if plumbing codes allow.

    On Thursday, January 12, 2016 IECA will be unveiling our newest member benefit - IECA SmartBrief, a weekly e-mail newsletter specifically designed to bring the most important and timely news stories to our membership and stakeholders. This publication will focus on the latest the stormwater, erosion and sediment control news. This complimentary benefit is specifically aimed at bringing you a quick, two-minute read that will help keep you up-to-date with the latest news and trends in our industry. November 2016

  • IECA is Seeking Volunteers for Environmental Connection 2017 
    Volunteer shifts are available for you to sign-up on a first-come, first-serve basis. Shifts available include: bag stuffing and assisting attendees with questions and how navigate the conference. They're between 2 - 4.5 hours long on February 21-24, 2017.
  • IECA Mountain States Conference a Success 
    IECA's Mountain States Annual Conference was held in Denver, Colorado November 10, 2016. Barry Fagan kicked off the conference with his keynote address: Green, Gray, or Purple - It's all Infrastructure discussing the organizational systems, structures and facilities necessary for a healthy and functional society. The conference offered three education tracks ranging from erosion and sediment control in remote areas, construction BMPs, successful revegetation and Phase II MS4 General Permits. During lunch Keynote speakers Micah Leadford and Jeff Crane provided insight into the catastrophic flooding along Colorado's front range in September 2013 and the response efforts that followed. Closing out the day was a lively discussion regarding stormwater regulations. Thank you to all the vendors, volunteers and attendees for making the 2016 conference such a big success!   • IECA's New eLearning Library

    In February 2016, IECA launched its new and improved online learning management system (LMS). This new system has been completely integrated into IECA's website providing members a single sign on experience. The site houses over 100 courses ranging from recorded IECA webinars, online courses and vendor webinars to package deals and currently hot topics in the industry. This has been a year process for IECA and the education staff. Many staff members worked tirelessly on the implementation, design and testing of the new system. “After months of hard work I am delighted we are launching our new Learning Management System,” says Joanna Fetherolf, IECA’s Director of Education. “IECA’s eLearning will now provide attendees with a user-friendly experience and additional features, such as a refined search engine, tracking of student transcripts and access to free member events. IECA is constantly striving to improve our education and this is another step forward."

Photos submitted for this free event will be judged in the following three categories: Impacts of Erosion and Sediment Control, Before and After, and Technology in Action.   • The Weather Channel's Jim Cantore | Keynote Speaker

    IECA is excited to announce the keynote speaker for Environmental Connection 2017 is Jim Cantore, world renowned meteorologist with the Weather Channel. Cantore will discuss changes in weather patterns, predictions for the future and how these changes will affect our industry. What can we do today to prepare for the weather changes over the next 50 years? Cantore will lend his insights on how our industry can prepare for the future in weather.

  • Call for Awards of Environmental Excellence

    Now is the your chance to be recognized by your colleagues in the erosion and sediment control industry! Each year, IECA acknowledges members of the Association and the industry who have made extraordinary contributions. Award winners serve as inspirational industry leaders and are recognized at the Environmental Connection Conference.

  • Environmental Connection 2017 Technical Paper of the Year

    IECA recently announced the recipient of the Most Distinguished Technical Paper Award for Environmental Connection 2017. Enhancing Soil Begins with Soil Biology and a Stable Soil Microclimate has been named the 2017 winner of this award. This honor recognizes presenters who have demonstrated excellence within the context of their Environmental Connection technical presentation. The paper was submitted by Jerry L. Hatfield, Ph.D. Dr. Hatfield will be recognized for this paper at the Environmental Connection 2017 Awards Ceremony and the presentation can be seen at the conference.

  • Craig Zeller with the EPA | Closing Keynote Speaker at Environmental Connection 2017

    On December 22, 2008 the failure of an ash dike at the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Kingston Fossil Plant in Roane County, TN caused a monumental environmental disaster where approximately 5.4 million cubic yards (CYs) of coal ash was released over 300 acres that choked the adjacent Emory River, disrupted electrical power, ruptured a natural gas line and water line, and covered a railway and local roadways. Zeller's keynote presentation will provide attendees a look into this disaster and his experience serving as the EPA's on-site coordinator for the cleanup and recovery efforts.

  • IECA 2016 BOD Election Results

    Congratulations to our newest board members Don Thieman, CPESC and Wesley Zech, Ph.D. who will be joining the IECA Board for the 2017-2020 term. Also, returning to serve another term is Charles R. Riling, Jr., TRETCNO, ABI, CESSWI. We are delighted to report that in this election, the percentage of voter participation nearly doubled over last year! Thank you to all of the candidates, to everyone who expressed an interest in running, and to those who voted!
