Four of the industry's leading manufacturers of erosion control blankets and turf reinforcement mats: American Excelsior Company, East Coast Erosion Control, Propex and Western Excelsior Corporation each have their own design software available to specifiers, contractors, owners, administrators, etc. As a nationwide distributor of these products, Hanes Geo Components is familiar with all four of these sets of design software. As Hanes Geo’s Marketing Manager, I suspect that there may be some reluctance among potential users to fully utilize the software of a specific company. There could be any number of reasons for this reluctance. For the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the IECA's annual conference last year, I contacted these four companies to gauge their interest in participating in a specially-focused presentation. All four companies enthusiastically agreed to be involved. The presentation was a success - so much so that I think that the industry could use a repeated presentation to another group within the industry.
Product manufacturers have created design software for the specifiers, contractors, owners, administrators, etc. of the erosion control industry. While the makers of the erosion control products and software might prefer that an individual use their software - they certainly want the individual to utilize some company's software as opposed to using nothing at all. The purpose of this presentation is to help the audience become familiar with the different types of design software which are available. This is NOT the place for a given company's representative to "bad mouth" or discredit another company's software or products. Instead, this is the forum for each company's representative to explain how their software can best be used. The desired result is a better understanding of the software which is currently available.
