Structural Culvert Rehab Under Roads and Rail

Van Young

Large diameter culverts failing under roadways and railways require immediate structural repairs. Avoiding costly dig-and-replace, and keeping traffic – and trains – running, are attractive attributes of any potential solution. This presentation details the rehabilitation of several large structures, including the methodology, engineering, application, and structural results. Several large-diameter stormwater rehabilitation projects will be highlighted, including an Australian railway project and a bridge-supporting structure in Florida. The common components are the design methodology and application of a high strength, fine aggregate composite concrete.
